Import and edit embroidery files

Open DST, PES, JEF and other embroidery files, or edit a stitch preview generated from an image. Learn where the controls are, how to change individual stitches and how to export your edited design.

Start with an image or an embroidery file

Open the studio and use the upload box. Images: PNG, JPG and WebP. Existing embroidery files: DST, PES, JEF, EXP, VP3, XXX and PEC. Keep uploads below 3 MB. For an image, choose your settings and click Generate embroidery. A machine file loads its existing stitches directly; you do not need to generate it again.

Find the editing controls

Once a stitch plan is loaded, look in the Your stitch plan panel. On a wide screen this is on the right; on a narrow screen scroll below the preview. Thread layers lets you choose a color block. The Machine stitch editor appears below the thread layers for both imported files and image-generated previews.

Select a layer and a stitch

Click a layer name, such as Ivory or Blue, then enter a Stitch number in the Machine stitch editor. Numbers start at 1 within the selected layer. The editor displays that stitch’s X and Y coordinates and whether it is a Stitch or Jump. Individual stitches are currently selected by number: clicking the canvas selects a layer, not a single stitch. The selected stitch is not highlighted on the canvas.

Move an individual stitch

Enter both New X and New Y in millimeters, then click Move stitch. These are absolute coordinates, not the distance to move. For example, New X = 3 and New Y = 4 places the stitch 3 mm right and 4 mm below the hoop center. Negative X moves left; negative Y moves up. Coordinates must stay inside the hoop. Moving a stitch also changes the path to neighboring stitches.

Delete a stitch or toggle a jump

Choose the Stitch number and click Delete stitch to remove that point. The next point is changed to a jump so deleting a point does not automatically create a new sewn connection across the gap. Toggle jump switches the selected point between a sewing move and a movement without stitching. The first point must remain a jump because it positions the needle. A jump is not a guarantee that your machine will cut the thread. Review the Stitches and Jumps views after each change.

Change colors, position, size and sewing order

Use the color swatch beside a thread layer to recolor it, or Remove and Restore to exclude or include it. Use the transform controls to move, resize or rotate a layer or the design. In the Machine stitch editor, select a layer and use Sew earlier or Sew later to change its position in the sewing sequence. The selected layer follows its new position after reordering. Resizing an existing stitch file preserves its stitch count, so it changes stitch density.

Undo an edit

Use the Undo button in the transform controls above Thread layers to reverse stitch edits or sewing-order changes. The Undo button inside Thread layers applies to the layer changes made in that panel. Undo history is limited to the current editing session.

Export and save your edited version

Choose a Download format and click Export design. Previewing and editing are free; exporting requires an account with export access. A stitch-edited version is saved to your dashboard when its export succeeds. Each export through the stitch-editing workflow uses a design credit when your plan has a limited allowance. Use the dashboard for repeat downloads of a saved version. Export before closing or refreshing the page: unsaved stitch edits and imported files are not automatically restored.

Understand imported colors and file limits

DST and EXP do not contain your custom RGB thread colors, so the imported colors may be placeholders. Set them from your thread chart before export. Other formats may use a fixed machine palette. Imports support up to 250,000 stitch commands, 96 thread blocks and designs up to 480 mm across either dimension. Actual machine, hoop and file-version limits still depend on your equipment.

What this editor can do

This is a stitch-based editor. It can change existing stitch points, thread colors, layer transforms and sewing order. It does not reconstruct editable satin columns or fill objects from DST or PES, and it does not provide manual shape digitizing or automatic density recalculation for imported files. After editing, inspect the animation and test-sew on the intended fabric and stabilizer.
